** PAYROLL FRAUD ALERT ** PLEASE READ **

Victoria Elvy :: Tuesday 12th February 2019 :: Latest Blog Posts

We have been advised that commercial clients are being targeted by fraudsters with an email which appears to have been sent by a director or employee, asking for their next salary payment to be sent to a different account number.

Although impersonation fraud is not new, this is a new variant as in the past attacks have asked for a fraudulent new payment or a change to a supplier's account. This is slightly different because the email to the client's finance/payroll team appears to be from a director or employee asking for their own account details to be changed for future payments. If the payroll team does not check whether the email is genuine, then the next salary payment is sent to the fraudulent account number quoted in the email.

Please remain vigilant and report any potentially-fraudulent requests to your bank.
